My Story

Maya Liberman started her cello studies at the age of 11 years old with Mrs. Emilia Orian at the Givatayim Conservatory in Israel. Following this, she attended “Telma Yellin” High School for the Performing Arts, and also continued cellos studies with Mr. Tomy Haas. After finishing her military service in 1996, she began her undergraduate academic studies at the Musicology Department at Tel Aviv University. As an exceptional student in her department, Maya taught informal ear-training lessons that were very popular. During these years, she was also awarded a double dean scholarship from the Yolanda and Katz Art Faculty for her academic achievements.

After receiving her bachelor’s degree, Maya immediately continued her studies by pursuing her master’s degree in Musicology and also taught in the Musicology department as an assistant instructor for five years. She was counted as one of the profound academic teachers in the Musicology department at Tel Aviv University.

The scholarships  and awards that Maya  have been granted are: Wolf Foundation for graduate students, Alfried-Krupp Foundation, Gidon Tamir award for excellent seminars, and Buchman-Mehta scholarship for orchestra players.

Maya Liberman expanded her musical knowledge by graduating from the Buchman-Mehta Music School at Tel Aviv University in the cello department under the instruction of Mr. Hillel Zori.

In 2007, Maya obtained a B.Ed.Mus – a certification in group string teaching –  a joint program of the Jerusalem Music and Dance Academy and the Jerusalem Music Center.

Over the next years, she taught a variety of music students in groups or private lessons and initiated and participated in large projects as well as concerts for young students.

Also in 2007, she joined the Raanana Symphonette Orechestra, as a cello tenured player. In the special music education program “Paama” of the Symphonette Raanana Orchestra, where she served as a lecturer and a player.

Today Maya teaches cello classes at the Barenboim-Said Conservatory in Jaffa, teaches private cello lessons to children and adults, coordinates concerts for children and adults and plays in the Raanana Symphonette Orchestra. In addition, she performs chamber music educational concerts for all ages.

  1. Dear Maya, thanks for sharing this with all of us. I am a composer originally from Toronto, Canada but now reside in Italy. At a local conservatory near lake Como I taught a group composition class, with students ranging in age from 6-15. It was a chamber ensemble (violins 1 and 2, a few woodwinds, lots of guitars and piano). Might a collaboration of introducing composition, its techniques and creative processes be of interest to you?
